November 26, 2007 According to a recently revealed source, the US Army Corps of Engineers conducted an early intentional plan to hide their role in the metro New Orleans levee failures. Dr. Ray Seed, co-chair of the respected U of Cal Berkeley levee investigation submitted an ethics complaint on October 30 documenting how the Corps of Engineers systematically hid their mistakes in the flooding and intimidated anyone who tried to intervene. All of this was done, according to Dr. Seed, with the help and complicity of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the same group the Army Corps chose to peer review the official Corps-sponsored levee investigation. Write your members of Congress and demand the 8/29 Investigation , a truly independent analysis of the flood protection failures in metro New Orleans.Click here: http://salsa.wiredforchange.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=CurSw...

Thoughts on the Acadiana Poker Series

The two day tournament to benefit the United Way was in a way a victim of its own success. I talked to a number of players there and they told me last years event had over 700 people play. The event was slammed and understaffed to accommodate such a swell of people, again this is according to the players. This year, with a great effort by the Small Town Poker Tour, they had plenty of tables, dealers, chips, drinks, and anything you could ask for. Unfortunately, I fear many of the players didn't return because of the chaos of last year. Team GCP didn't get on board to promote the event until three weeks prior to it and I think the traveling players from New Orleans, and Mississippi were really torn. The IP Classic, which Team GCP attended on Wednesday and Thursday, had started and held their biggest event turnout wise that Friday. We were in Lafayette and heard stories of many of the players we know opting to go East instead of West. To be honest, they missed out. The Acadiana P...

Congrats to Gene D

He represented TEAM GCP well this weekend. I sweated him a good bit in his mega on Friday and was very impressed with his play. He induced calls when he had the best hands and he laid down when he needed to. There is tactic of Gene's, which I won't give away, but he is a big proponnent of that he really worked to his advantage. For those in the know, he "worked" it. At one point, the only stack at the table that could knock him out, when they were 5 handed (4 seats) went all in for just the blinds. It got to Gene and he mulled it over for a long time. In my own head, maybe the only hand I play there is Aces (don't need to win the tournament just need to win a seat) and I might even lay that down. After an excruciating amount of time he pitched it. A couple of hands later he asked if the guy could beat pocket 10s. What?!? Pocket 10s. I figured I had to call a T.O. and get Gene's head straight. I actually tapped him on the shoulder and got him to step...

Acadiana Series of Poker

Just another reminder the acadiana poker series is tomorrow. We hope to have hand outs at the event. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Cajun Dome.

Early thoughts on the IP

Played Halloween day at the IP and it was ghoulish for me. In the noon tournament I finished in the 30s in a small field. With only 119 entrants it felt like a Harrahs wednesday tournament, except the structure allowed for some play. I started out pretty hot, flopping a flush in the big blind (82) and winning a pot as chasers called and didn't connect. Got aces with everybody folding to the button who limped. I raised, BB folded, button called. He folded post-flop. Then I made a good read on a guy that he held more than me. His Ace-five (Aces full of 5s) would have crushed my AK (aces and 5s with King kicker). I list those hands because they were the only significant ones I got involved in until I went card dead. When I say card dead I mean zombie dead. 7-2, 7-2, 7-2, 8-2, 8-3, 7-2. It was also one of those days where I didn't even get to sweat flops. Even my folded hands weren't connecting. I guess if I were a better player I could have made something from nothing. However...

Congrats to Joe and Joe

Cash game expert Joe Bush got a piece of the bad beat jackpot at Harrahs on Thursday night. Pot was pretty big considering one guy flopped quad 10s. I hope he was just smooth-calling the pocket aces that got the needed third ace on the river. Also, Joe "Bullets" Comeaux got his aces cracked on the same night for $100. Nice wins fellas. Played at Boomtown today. Once again I ran into the painkillers during the tournament and beat a hasty exit. Good thing is I picked up a tell on the guy that had them. He did two distinctly different things when he had nothing and he had something. Unfortunately, it took me calling with a pocket pair of my own to figure it out. Guy is a good player who I've seen at a number of local final tables so this might really help me out in the future so even without a cash I might have earned some money today. I'm so tired of running into aces or losing with them in these tournaments. Pretty brutal stretch of late. Going to be a busy...

online poker is rigged...

I have commented previously about odd happenings on Absolute Poker. Now there is verified proof cheating exists there. Ugh. Read all the ugly details... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21381022/

Acadiana Poker Series

We are happy to help spread the word about the Acadiana Poker Series. It's a great cause. The tournaments promise plenty of play with starting stacks of $16,000 and rebuys of $8,000. Buy-in is just $100 and rebuys are but $50. You save the registration fee if you sign up online ($10). I'm curious as to what the blind schedule is. I imagine they won't be starting at $25 $25 but who knows. I'm looking forward to seeing a number of friends in Lafayette I haven't seen in a while. Should be fun.

Eric Lindgren completes...

4 rounds of golf under 100 in one calender day. No cart. For a measely 350K Eric accomplished this today. Phil Ivy was on the hook for 200k. Gavin Smith and others actually bought out their bets after the 9th hole of the last round so Eric did not officially win 350k today, but it was still close to it. What's the lesson in all this? Don't get drunk with Eric Lindgren after busting out of the Horse event and then go betting him prop bets for the next morning. Don't do it. In related news, Jaime Gold lost multiple prop bets to Robert Varkoni. Gold could not complete 4 continous laps around Greg Raymer on foot in one day. Gold also failed in his attempt to go 12 hours without mentioning his bracelet or shaking his wrist with it on it. In his last attempt, Gold couldn't get a nod of recognition from Phil Hellmuth walking through the Rio. All told Jaime owes Varkoni $19.73. There is some dispute as Jaime claims multiple people had pieces of him. Actually, since he sold off ...

Update on Poker

Welcome to our latest blogger on Gulf Coast Poker. NET. I get a lot of useful strategy and information from him because our games are so different. I am a deliberate tight player, aggressive but tight, he's more a loose player who vacuum up chips early in tournaments to play for the top prizes. I find myself in situations like this. On the BB, (blinds 1 and 2oo), Limp, Limp, Limp, Limp, Limp, Limp, Button raises to $600 (????), fold, action to me. Right now there is $2100 in the pot. I have AK. I have $4500 left. I read weakness across the board and think the button has either a middle pair or a couple of overcards like AK, AQ, AJ. Since I have AK, it's more likely a hand I have dominated. If it were Aces or Kings wouldn't he thin the field with a much large bet--so it's not them. I could even be suited connectors and he's trying to build a big pot if the hits it on the head. Even if it's middle pair, I'll take the coin flip by isolating with all t...

Phil Hellmuth wins 11th and other WSOP news...

Blowhard bloviater wins 11th bracelet. Johnny Chan and Dolye Brunson were on hand to hear Phil fake humbleness for a moment and then go about reminding everyone he's the best. Not there but I imagine he referenced his 56 some odd WSOP cashes. And then a dose of transparently fake self-deprecating humor. I wish it was self-defecating humor meaning he shit himself because he was so excited about being in his own presence. He's the type of guy that uses a mirror for porn. Alan Cunningham won his fifth bracelet, joining Ivy and Hellmuth as youngest to 5. I have nothing bad to say about him except he let Jaime Gold beat him in likely his only chance to win the Main Event. Alex Jacob is confirming my early opinion that's he's most likely the next great one with his performances. I hate that poker is going the way of chess and we'll have to listen to Ivy League nerds talk about multiple levels of thought and strategies. Jacob's "Poker is Easy" remarks...

We're back...

Image
Sorry, completely forgot about this blog as I've been traveling about. Will get more updates, especially with some nice tournament scores and other interesting tales from the felt up here soon. Thought, I'd include an image of the truly tastless Katrina liquor that some sleazebag in town came up with last year. Yes, I understand Hurricanes are named after Hurricanes, so is a hockey team and a university mascot, but last I checked San Franciscans weren't downing The Great Fire schnappes pre WWI and Euros never created a Black Death coffee drink to while away their time during the Bubonic Plague. I admit, my friends once named a drink the Bubonic Tonic, but I'd say we are pretty far removed from festering corpses and ring around the rosie. So why the image? Because despite that brilliant slogan of Get Blown Away (you gotta figure a classy guy like that thought about it just leaving it as Get Blown), New Orleans is slowly coming back. That's something everybody ...

Dax from Punked and Matthew "Shaggy was the part I was born to play" Lillard are seondary players in this drama.
