My Life on Tape Delay

Alright maybe not tape delay the stuff that matters, though it would be nice if I could TiVo some of these tournaments I play in and fast forward to the end to see how I fared. Would make patience easier huh? Though it's not the destination it's the journey, the trite quote that rattles around my skull when I've been card dead in a large Multi-table tournament and I feel boredom onset. Maybe it's my background in soccer where they will be long spells of inactivity (especially as the up striker or goalkeeper), where as a really young kid, my attention would be diverted to a buzzing bee or the soccer moms on the sideline, but as I got older I'd stay focused knowing that in that sport suddenly there would be a spurt of action that would determine the outcome of the game. You don't know when it's going to come but you have to be ready when it does. That's tournament poker (okay deep stack tournament poker). Alright, that's a typical tangent for me. ...

Great Day Yesterday Part II

It actually makes it two days ago. The morning before the positive outcomes in the two rivalry games, I played in the Harrahs tournament. I endured a crazy morning of swings and finally became "THAT" guy, I'm always so jealous of. Though in retrospect it comes with a bit of a cavaet. Usually, when the money got in I'd get outflopped and then I'd catch up. So, even though I'd win the hand after a wild set of cards I wasn't just throwing money in bad and being a card rack. So, I start out early being patient through the first couple of levels. I'd get in cheap and I was making hands. I hand 910 suited in late position. Flopped a boat. Somehow a guy with K9 (board 9910), didn't get felted to me. Well played by him. Poorly played by me. The one overpair I got all day was Kings. We had a couple of short stacks and I saw one like his cards and look at his chips. I limped, got another limper and that guy shoved. Around to me I called, middle...

Harvard does Online Gambling Study...

It's an interesting study done by the addiction specialists at the Ivy League school that is probably a little behind Yale (Alex Jacob, Vanessa Selbst) in producing top flight pros of late that I wanted to comment on from a couple of different angles. The first is that study to me raises a question, is an online compulsive/addicted gambler the same as a live one? In poker, opinion is pretty strong in the disimiliarities between the two groups of players. The good live players are usually, tactically a little different than the good online players (with of course both being proficient in poker fundalmentals and sharing common core skils), and it's my experience as a mediocre player that there seems to be a gulf in style between the two groups at the mediocre level. IE mediocre players are mediocre online for slightly different reasons than mediocre or average live players are medicore. That being said it's becomming less and less common for a player to not have played both a...

But first things first... Saw that our friends at popular online casino bwin have a new game in their casino: Amazon Adventure. Looks like a good bit of fun. It's a 16-reel slot game with 10 lines to win. In the spirit of an Amazon Adventure the bonus rounds are played at waterfalls and volcanos. There is also a scatter bonus where you can win if you get a random set of 7s or more. There are a lot more games like this for players that like slot play at home. They also have a great interface to play blackjack online and to play roulette online . http://www.gulfcoastpoker.net/
