Crapped on the Head and Kicked in the teeth part 2

Image
I walk to the car, try to metaphorically wipe the bird crap off my shoulders and contemplate how my bankroll got severely lightened on the day. I recall the fun hands where I got hurt, such as the one when I raised preflop and got a few callers. Flop was 882. I fire out an almost pot size bet and I get a caller. Turn is another 2. I make the same bet and get a call. River is 6 or so. I check, he checks. I show 99. Dealer is about to hand me the pot as he shows 7-2. He points to the deuce for her benefit and the turned full house. At first I think he's doing it for me rubbing it in a bit. Standard 1-2 game in Biloxi. Get AA utg. Limp. Next two limp. Tight kid after you raises to 17. Three callers. You are sitting with about 500 in front. What now? You bet 77. Tight kid asks how much you got left. He's got about 277. He flat calls (you are pretty sure he has a hand like Kings). Next guy calls (pretty steady and hasn't gotten out of hand after three hours of playing). Fold, fold. Flop is Jd9d5h. What now? You check. (Bad Check?) Tight kid puts in 100. (125 behind). Next guy goes over the top for 283 more. What do you do? You ask him if he'd call a 77 bet with Jacks. He said he has worse. You are incredulous and you say 9s? He says, "You guys are going to be really mad if I hit my hand." What do you do? What do they have? www.gulfcoastpoker.net

My misguided thoughts led me to the conclusion where I actually thought that action, check raising a raise and a call might make my play look even stronger… however, what I had forgotten was the other hand I had just raised preflop . Yes, the squeeze play is never a bad idea but perhaps I wasn ’t as cognizant as I should have been at what the others had been observed. Poker is all about readjusting to the image on display. That is a vital part of poker strategy . Your opponents don’t see your cards so all they can go by is what they see. And, my check raise which might normally look uber powerful here could have been judged another reckless bullying attempt, so arguably it was done in a bad place. The hand that I had just raised played out quite interesting. Under the gun led out, then I g...
